Trolle visits the Haga park

On Thursday May 4th 2006 Trolle visited the Haga park, a royal park in Solna founded by king Gustav III in the late 18th century. The park contains several castles and other buildings from that time.

Here Trolle is standing in front of Koppartälten (the cupper tent). The building is wooden covered by painted cupper plates, and does not resemble anything I've ever seen. It's one of my favourite places to show my visitors, just like Trolle.

The chinese pagoda is a typical Gustav III building. He was very romantic.

The park is right at lake Brunnsviken with several boat clubs. From Brunnsviken it is possible to go through a passage to get to the open sea, and as it is so near Stockholm it is a popular place to keep boats. In the back you can see a big brown building which is Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet which translates to something like 'The state's museum of natural history'. It's a part of the university campus. The yellow tower is the 'Referees tower'. It was used many years ago by the referees when there was horse races on the frozen lake in the winter time. Nowadays only long distance ice skaters come to the lake in the winter.

Another picture. I think Trolle made a good pose in this one.

After that Trolle had a rest at the field in front of one of Gustav III's castles.

Trolle visits Filmstaden

Trolle visited Filmstaden in Solna on May 10th 2006.

Filmstaden translates to 'Movie town' and was 'Sweden's Hollywood' run by Svensk Film (Swedish Film) before WWII. After a few years out of the area Svensk Film is now back with their head office in one of the buildings.

The streets are named after the people who worked here, like Ingrid Bergman who made 11 films here. Greta Garbo made her debut here in 'Gösta Berlings Saga' and Ingmar Bergman's classic movie 'Det sjunde inseglet' ('The seventh seal') with the unforgettable scene where Max von Sydow plays chess with Death was made here. (That scene was shot somewhere in the archipelago, though.)

The main studio building...

... which today contains a cinema. Entrance below the red SF sign. Some of the stars are looking out of the windows on the ground floor.

We went to see a movie too, just the two of us!

Trolle goes to a soccer game

On May 14th Solna's local team and pride AIK had a home match versus GAIS from Gothenburg. Of course we went to see! We weren't alone, there were a little more than 20.000 visitors this day. AIK is the biggest football club in Sweden measured in number of members and numbers of visitors to the matches. AIK was founded 1891 and have won the national league, Allsvenskan, 10 times, the last was in 1998.

Here is Trolle outside Råsunda stadium. The stadium is the national arena for footbal in Sweden and has hosted both the World Cup in 1958 when Brazil beat Sweden in the final as well as the European Championship in 1982. When people were allowed to stand in the stadium the audience record was above 50.000. Today the stadium takes a little more than 36.000.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon there is no better place to stay in Solna than on the Lower Eastern Tier, where Trolle could see the team warm up before the match.

Tifo - of course in AIK's colors: black and yellow. Everybody was singing the AIK song.

The result? AIK won 2-0!

Feeling that he now knew Solna quite well and very happy with the football result, Trolle went on to Germany on May 16th 2006.
